The Elk River City sign committee chose Visual Communications as a sign consultant out of ten companies that submitted proposals ranging from $20,500 to $150,000. VCI, who came in at $65,000, was awarded the project to bring a consistent look to the city’s signs and craft a way-finding signage plan that would direct people to areas such as downtown, parks, landmarks, public facilities, retail areas and other amenities.
Richard Lang made the presentation to the Elk River City sign committee on January 9th, 2014 and was awarded the wayfinding signage project only a few days afterwards. “Signing is your signature”, said Mr. Lang. “Our goal is to create a master plan that would stand the test of time”, including plans for primary and secondary gateway entrance signs for key intersections. The plans also include signs for signature parks and secondary parks and directory and directional signs.
VCI, as a consultant, would work with the city to design signs that the city could make in-house. Hoisington Koegler Group, a planning, landscape architecture and urban design in Minneapolis, would be a sub-consultant on the project.
The consulting team would also offer help identifying state, local and federal grants as possible sources of funding for the signs.
